Souper Bowl of Caring Kicks Off in Texas
Excitement was high in Texas this week as cheerleaders, boy scouts and marching bands led a pep rally and volunteered at the Houston Food Bank to kick off the 2012 Souper Bowl of Caring food drive in that area.
Similar kick offs followed in Austin and in North Texas, where Dallas Cowboy's legend Drew Pearson joined students from two area high schools to kick off the community-wide campaign.
Residents in Houston, Austin and North Texas may purchase bags of food at participating area grocery stores to donate to area food banks. This year's goal is to collect enough food to provide 4 million meals to the hungry and hurting in South Texas while North Texas hopes to collect $1.2 million in food and cash, which will provide 3.6 million meals.
The kick offs received great local news coverage, with live reports on morning news shows and articles in area newspapers. Thanks to everyone who has helped make these kick off events such a success. Look for more updates on Souper Bowl of Caring activities across the nation as we prepare to tackle hunger together in 2012.
